Mood Indigo

Commissioned by the contemporary design and lifestyle fair Maison et Objet in 2011 to showcase the richness which can be achieved in indigo shading and patterning techniques, this installation is made up of 24 large panels of very fine silk-linen fabric.  There are 12 shades of indigo in this installation, mirroring the 12 shades of indigo that a dye master would be capable of in Malian textile traditions. Each panel features a different patterning using various techniques – applique, stitch-resist, tie-resist, ombre-dyed, woodblock print, and freehand cassava-paste resist.
