Obsession

Commissioned by Manchester Art Gallery in 2012 during the Olympic Games, Obsession is a series of 34 mud-dyed panels, designed to be displayed hanging from a high ceiling as a mobile where they can spin and turn in the air.  It is based on Aboubakar's calligraphic obsession with a line that begins and never ends, and reflects rhythmic movement,  dance and music, but also the obsessional movement of Whirling Dervishes.  It is also about the obsession that is required in order to master a skill, such as calligraphy or music
